a bugs halloween
Halloween was last Saturday night and we had lots of fun and ate lots of candy!
This year we had a bug theme happening as Lola was a ladybug, Leighton was a spider and Bella was a butterfly. Alex even showed up as a bumblebee!
We trick or treated around the neighborhood for a little bit then headed back to the house to give out candy to other kids. Instead of waiting for people to come to the door we took our candy bucket outside and sat in the driveway. We told all the kids to "just take two!"

We're back from Australia!
We all had a great time visiting Australia. ere is what we got up to:
- Lots of time in the hotel pool and spa, where Bella can now swim the entire length of the pool.
- Down at the beach, Lola loved digging in the sand and splashing in the water and Leighton just went crazy running around the beach.
- Seeing all the kites at the Coolum Kite Festival
- Feeding the wild dolphins at Tin Can Bay
- A visit to the Australia Zoo where Leighton got to feed an elephant, the kids got to pat a koala and all kids got feed kangaroos and go on a pony ride.
- Spending time with the Palmieri family at the hotel and parks
- Jacuzzi time with the Wild family
- Walking the streets of Coolum Beach holding hands with Pa
- Going on a big aeroplane with Nana and Papa
- Bugging Phil as he was sitting on the couch
- Getting coffee's with Daddy
- Snuggling with Mommy while letting jetlag get the better of them

bella the birthday girl
Last Sunday was my birthday and now I'm 5 years old!
We were in Seattle on my actual birthday day and we got up and ate icecream for breakfast!
We had a fun day that included going to the waterpark... who would have thought they would have a waterpark in Seattle?
After getting back home we had a little party and got to have my cousin Alex spend the night... it's been a great birthday celebration week!

Time with Pa
We have been so lucky to have Pa staying with us for the last couple of months... we thought we would share some of the highlights of his time with us grandkids...
- the camping trip to June Lake, taking hikes, getting dirty and driving in the car
- Bella getting to go over to Catalina for the night with Pa (and Mommy/Daddy)
- helping Pa make his green tea in the morning
- Leighton getting to play on this train set with Pa
- lunchtime picnics in the park with Pa and Tina
- staying at the beach house in Leucadia and squishing the seaweed with our feet
- Bella and Daddy taking Pa to the airport in the topless Jeep. He had crazy hair when we arrived at the airport
- decorating our coffee mugs to give to Pa
- petting rabbits, guinea pigs, emus and goats at the petting zoo
Thanks Pa for being patient with us when we tried to help you, answering all our questions about everything from shoes to toothbrushes, helping put our shoes on, playing in the backyard and just spending time with us. We love you!

step right up, step right up!
We went to the OC Fair earlier this week... it was fun!
The best part for our Daddy was Leighton and I (this is Bella) playing the basketball at sideshow alley.
We each got one shot.
Leighton went first, close to the basket and made his shot!
Then I stepped up, being older I had to shoot from a long way away. My parents didn't even think I'd make it to the basket, buit I showed them! I shot, and I scored!
Here are some pics of us with the basketballs we chose as our prize.

-getting to pet and hold a white cockatoo
-getting face painting done (Leighton was a tiger)
-painting mugs
Thanks Annie for a great afternoon!

busy days at the sarti house!
Wow, we have had a whirlwind past few weeks, with lots of visitors, adventures and more... just not enough time to blog.
We have had a fun time with our Aunty Robyn and Uncle Drew coming over from Australia to visit us. They were in high demand for coloring, car rides, and requests for attention! While they were with us we got to visit Disneyland, take on Tucker Wildlife Park, shoot the pier at Huntington Beach, cruise the Irvine Spectrum, catch an Angel baseball game, take a few dips in the pool, cruise over to Catalina and more!
While all this was going on here are some more things we have been up to....
Bella: finished Preschool for the year, is getting great at drawing and coloring, loves to "write stories", got to have some sleepovers at Nana's with her cousin Alex, and acquired a taste for Sweet Potato Fries.
Leighton: loves to pretend to play baseball, or as he calls it "base". When you hit the ball it's called "basing it". Loves having his Pa around to tell stories to, enjoys a bowl of cereal or three in the morning, is developing great manners, and has an extra high super cute voice octave we didn't know about.
Lola: is finally figuring out that you can get places on your own two feet, but still only takes about 7 steps max. She lvoes her food and is very vocal when she doesn't get it quick enough, has fallen in love with a pink blanket and can't live without it, has the biggest grinniest smile and continues to get called "the redhead" by her older sister!

happy birthday lola!
It's Lola, yep, it's my birthday! (well, at least yesterday it was)
We had a fun day singing happy birthday many times, and even took a trip to California Adventure to celebrate. I can't wait to have a party with my friends at the park in a few weeks.
Lately I have been trying to walk, crawling at blistering pace, eating everything in sight, sleeping good, and smiling way too much!

help for Lola
This is our great helper for Lola, here she is feeding her a bottle.
Other things our helper likes to do:
- pick Lola up every minute of the day
- help Lola eat her food at meal times
- find toys for Lola to play
- go upstairs and grab outfits for Lola when we need them
- did I mention pick Lola up?

some pics from Kenya
These are all from Allison's blog... she has been in Kitale, Kenya for the last 6 months and is working with the team that went over with Jana and Bella!
These pics are Bella crashing after a hard days work, Bella making shirts, and painting finger nails for the local girls.

Update from Kenya: from Leigh
I was able to speak with both Bella and Jana on the phone this morning. Leighton even got to say Hi to his big sister, and Lola managed some grunts over the phone!
Their time in Kitale, Kenya has been tough, but rewarding. Long days, lots of needs, sweaty kids (including Bella) and more!
Bella has definitely had some great moments, being able to paint fingernails for girls at the Discover 2 Recover center. She has also had some not-so-great moments, once you have most days as a 4 year old, only most times you are not in a foreign country when it happens!
Many of the kids say that she is the "smallest white person they have ever seen", so many are enamored with her and she doesn't like the attention most of the time!
She is taking everything in though, soaking it up like a sponge, so we are confident that this trip will round her character and develop a wanting to serve... something that we see benefits from in years to come!
Jana is feeling dirty nasty and is ready to come home and see her other babies (and husband). Please be praying that she'll be able to finish strong!
They are now heading off to another town called Narok where they will spend two night working with an orphanage there, then onto the Masai Mara for a night of relaxation/wild animal chasing before jumping on a plane for the long ride home.

Kenya Update: from Leigh
I was able to talk to Bella and Jana on the phone this morning. They made it safely from LA to Detroit to Amsterdam to Nairobi, then spent the night there and then hopped a small plane up to Kitale.
Bella sounded tired, but was excited to tell Leighton about the 4 planes that she went on.
Jana was glad they made it there, but said that Bella was really tired which made it really hard for her to interact with the kids at Sister Freda's Cottage Hospital. Just pray that she starts warming up and playing with the kids. I am hoping this will come with rest and familiarity over the next few days.
Jana is tired too, and please pray for her as she balances being a team leader, Mommy to Bella, and lover of people in Kenya.
I was just thinking this morning that it would be an exhausting enough journey just to get home to familiarity. But, to go all that way and then experience your first day in Africa, with it's beautiful people, different smells, amazing stories, and high-touch kids can easily get overwhelming!
I'll keep you posted when I talk to Bella and Jana tomorrow....

Bella: on my way!
I got up really early this morning, put on my clothes and shoes and I was off to the church to get our bus to the airport...
We made it all the way to Detroit and are about to take our next flight to Amsterdam before getting our plane to Nairobi.
It's a long long way to get to Kenya, just like when we go to Perth!
I'll let you know once I get safe and sound in Kenya.. hopefully I can see a giraffe from the plane window!!

christmas in pictures
It was a fun Christmas Day. Santa didn't miss our house, because Daddy had the lights on. Santa ate our cookies, and the reindeers ate most of the carrots.
Bella got lots of different Hello Kitty presents, the big one from Santa being a Hello Kitty digital camera.
Leighton got some books, underpants, and a new red scooter.
Lola was just happy for cereal and baby food!
We had a great breakfast at our house after opening some presents, then went and had a family lunch at Nanna and Poppas house. All the cousins were there so us kids had lots and lots of fun!
Here are some pictures of Christmas Day 2009...

bella: ice skating
The other day I went ice-skating for the first time!
Mommy helped me get around the rink, as Daddy says he is Australian and therefore doesn't have the ability to ice skate.
Little kids have to wear helmets, lucky I had my brand new bike helmet in the car, so that I looked pretty in pink on the ice.
It was really fun because all my cousins got to ice skate with me, and we got to eat funnel cake afterwards.

The New Year Sarti Party Update!
Bella:
I am now 4, but like telling people I am four and a half.
I got a bike before Christmas and a helmet for Christmas. Though the bike is still a bit big I like wearing my helmet around when riding things like my Jeep.
Though I don't watch a lot of TV, I like watching Handy Manny with Leighton, and Upside Down with Nana.
I really like drawing and always spend part of my day drawing. I like spelling out people's names, and am working on drawing flowers lately.
I am enjoying preschool, and really like my teacher. I have a few friends in class and one of them lives in our neighborhood. I get to draw and create lots of fun things at preschool.
In a few weeks I am going to go to Kenya (it's a country in Africa). I am going with my Mommy. I'll tell you more about it soon.
I used to be really scared of the different characters at Disneyland, but now I am really brave to go up and hug them and take my picture with them!
Leighton:
I turned two in October, but if you listen to me talk you might think I am a little older! With Bella around teaching me new words I come up with new funny things all the time!
My favorite thing to do is play with a ball. Throwing, kicking, hitting... I can play sports all day.
I also like drawing (with Bella), play-doh (with Bella) and occasionally playing with cars. I just got a scooter form Santa so I have been learning to ride that in the last week.
I am a good, but sometimes messy eater. I love my mac & Cheese, yoghurt, and cinnamon roll from Bagels & Brew.
Mom and Dad say it's a good day when they don't have to change my shirt more than once, but I think as a boy I can get at least two shirts dirty per day right?!
I have my own plane. It's blue. I see it i nthe sky sometimes. My Daddy has a plane too. I think it's black. It's in Australia right now.
I just started asking "why?" all the time, though I really don't know why I am asking.
My favorite show is Handy Manny. He is really good at fixing things.
Lola:
I just turned 8 months old today.
I really like sitting up now, but when I am not sitting up I am rolling to my destination. I can roll either way and even do a little crawling backwards.
I love to eat anything that's in sight, and though I can be a tough crowd, once you get a smile out of me it'll be worth it.
My brother and sister love to keep me company and try picking me up and stealing my toys. I play along with it, and sometime spit up on them.
I really love my Mommy and sometimes cry when she leaves the room. People say I have her voicebox too.
If you dress me in the right colors it really accentuates my strawberry blond hair!

Our day at Seaworld
The sun came out (well, it was hiding behind the clouds a little) so we spent the day rugged up at Seaworld. Leighton was excited to see the penguins, he went through the exhibit twice, Lola was a big fan of anything that she could see, and Bella loved holding the starfish and seeing the dolphin show. The unexpected highlight though was being able to get our photo taken with Cookie Monster, Abby, Grover, Big Bird, and the one and only Elmo!
Our day at Think.Play.Create
We got to spend a rainy day in San Diego inside at the new kid's art museum called ThinkPlayCreate. There was lots of fun things to do, and we all had a great time. We drew in an archive, made a penguin out of clay, drew and cut shadow puppets, played with bean bags, made an ornament, and kept out of the rain the whole time!

halloween 2008
Halloween was a fun one this year... we checked out Trunk or Treat at our church, which produced great amounts of candy, then hit up the Painted Trails for some neighborhood action... our outfits were great. A few months ago Bella said she wanted to be Vegemite for Halloween, so we rolled with the idea, and came up with Peanut Butter for Leighton and Nutella for Lola! Cousin Alex joined us for some Halloween fun...

the new Sarti Kids ride!
The Sarti kids have been waiting patiently (since before Lola came on the scene) for a sweet ride to cruise the streets in... and it finally arrived! Check out these pics on our first run around our cul-de-sac.
With Bella all days now start with asking her parents when she can take a ride in the Jeep, and Leighton is a patient passenger for a few minutes each ride before he wants a piece of the steering wheel! One day it will be his... when Bella gets too big.

Mommy and Bethany
Last week at a conference at church Jana had the privilege of interviewing Bethany Hamilton about her life, faith and surfing... she did a great job of guiding the conversation and the students loved hearing about Bethany's story!
